Sulphur Crested Cockatoo

The Sulphur Crested Cockatoo is a large dog, demanding, typically living 40–70 years. Central India runs hot and dry for much of the year, and that shapes the first twelve months with this breed more than anything in the breed standard does.

Health work is completed before listing, and the records travel with the dog.

Caring for a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo in central India

• Heat: shade and water are not optional here. Move activity to the early morning from March onward.
• Socialising: new people, surfaces and noises early and often, while it is still easy.
• Nails: trimmed before you can hear them on hard flooring.
• Weight: judged against your vet's target, never against what the dog asks for.
• Checks: an annual vet visit booked before the hot months, not during them.
