The Yellow Monk is a small dog, confident, typically living 20–30 years. Central India runs hot and dry for much of the year, and that shapes the first twelve months with this breed more than anything in the breed standard does.

Caring for a Yellow Monk in central India

• Heat: shade and water are not optional here. Move activity to the early morning from March onward.
• Perches: varying diameters, natural wood rather than all dowel, to keep feet healthy.
• Cage: wide rather than tall, with room to open both wings, and out of direct draught.
• Diet: pellets and fresh vegetables, not an all-seed bowl. Never avocado, chocolate or caffeine.
• Checks: an annual vet visit booked before the hot months, not during them.
