Moluccan Cockatoo

The Moluccan Cockatoo is a large dog, very cuddly, typically living 50–70 years. Central India runs hot and dry for much of the year, and that shapes the first twelve months with this breed more than anything in the breed standard does.

Health work is completed before listing, and the records travel with the dog.

Caring for a Moluccan Cockatoo in central India

• Heat: shade and water are not optional here. Move activity to the early morning from March onward.
• Training: loose-lead walking and reliable recall, both set in the first three months.
• Teeth: brushed or given something to chew; dental trouble is the most under-treated thing we see.
• Exercise: two walks a day, and do not over-exercise a young dog while the joints are still forming.
• Checks: an annual vet visit booked before the hot months, not during them.
